Soneium and DayOneDream partner to tokenize K-pop IP

Soneium and DayOneDream have partnered to bring K-pop intellectual property and related revenue streams onchain through DayOneDream’s WAVIST platform, following a tokenized IP bond that WAVIST completed in May.

Summary

  • WAVIST will work with Soneium to develop tokenized K-content assets and revenue streams.
  • WAVIST says its earlier K-pop IP bond completed issuance, redemption, and token burning.
  • Access to future assets will depend on applicable rules and user eligibility.
  • The partners announced the deal at Korea Blockchain Week in Seoul.

According to a Sep. 29 announcement from Soneium and DayOneDream shared with crypto.news, the companies will combine WAVIST’s work in entertainment financing with Soneium’s blockchain infrastructure. DayOneDream manages K-pop artists including BTOB, LEE CHAE YEON, MEMI and 2F, alongside music production, live events and IP commerce.

The proposed assets would give eligible users a way to participate in the financial value tied to entertainment IP. For rights holders, the companies see tokenization as another route to raise funds and earn revenue from their work. The announcement makes that access subject to regulatory and eligibility requirements.

How WAVIST’s K-pop IP bond sets up the partnership

WAVIST’s earlier bond provides the clearest example of the financial activity behind the new deal. According to the announcement, WAVIST issued the tokenized bond in May to finance K-pop IP, then carried it through final redemption and the burning of its tokens.

Issuance brought the bond into circulation, while redemption completed its repayment process. Burning removed the redeemed tokens from circulation. The companies cited that full sequence as evidence that WAVIST can manage an entertainment financing product through its entire onchain life cycle.

The announcement did not identify the bond’s issuer, size, interest terms, or underlying catalog. It also did not name a first asset for the Soneium partnership. The May bond is a completed WAVIST transaction; the planned work with Soneium concerns future K-content assets and revenue streams.

DayOneDream’s role goes beyond supplying an artist name or a piece of content. According to its company description, it works across music production and publishing, video, artist management, concerts and IP commerce. Those activities give it several types of rights and income to consider when structuring a financial product, although the partners have not specified which will be used first.

Dylan Cho, DayOneDream’s RWA lead, said the partnership would connect financing more directly to the IP that generates entertainment revenue.

“K-pop is a market unlike any other, yet the way capital reaches it has barely changed,” Cho said. He added that the companies see a path to “investing through the IP itself.”

Soneium brings an entertainment network to tokenization

Soneium is an Ethereum layer-2 network developed by Sony Group and Startale Group. Its work with DayOneDream adds an entertainment financing use case to a network already built around creators, digital content and applications.

In January, crypto.news covered Sony Ventures’ $13 million investment in Startale Group. The report said Soneium had processed more than 500 million transactions and supported over 250 live applications, citing figures in the investment announcement. The Sony funding went to Startale, which helps develop Soneium; it was not funding for DayOneDream or WAVIST.

Earlier entertainment projects on Soneium have included digital collectibles and game-related assets. A tokenized bond or revenue-linked product involves a different set of questions for a buyer, including who owes payments, which income supports them, and what rights the token carries. WAVIST describes its platform as a way to structure K-culture revenue into asset-backed instruments, with issuing companies responsible for their offerings.

Yuji Kumagai, head of Soneium Protocol, said the network could help creators raise money while giving supporters a financial stake in the work they follow.

“Creators get a new way to raise funds for the work they want to make, and their supporters share in the value it creates,” Kumagai said.

He identified K-pop as a starting point for Soneium’s work with entertainment IP.

Music rights have drawn other onchain projects

The Soneium deal joins other attempts to connect music rights with blockchain-based financing. In February 2025, Music Protocol partnered with Plume to bring music intellectual property onto Plume’s network, as crypto.news reported at the time. That agreement also centered on access to music-related assets for rights holders and investors.

The structures can differ even when projects use the same term, “tokenization.” A token might record a claim under a bond, represent an interest in a revenue stream, or serve another function set out in an offering’s terms. DayOneDream and Soneium have described their intended category as K-content assets and associated revenue streams, while leaving the terms of future products to later announcements.

WAVIST says its platform connects entertainment IP with financial infrastructure. On its website, it describes K-culture cash flows from activities such as concerts and content as potential sources for asset-backed instruments. The rights and payment terms for any product would depend on its own issuing documents.

U.S. access depends on each product’s terms

For U.S. readers, a tokenized bond raises a securities question that cannot be settled by its use of a blockchain. In a January statement, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission said securities can be tokenized, including bonds and notes, and that token designs may give holders different rights. The statement does not address WAVIST’s bond or approve a future Soneium offering.

The partners have made eligibility part of their plans for access to tokenized K-content. They have not announced whether any future product will be offered to U.S. investors. Its issuing entity, contractual rights, and distribution terms would matter to that determination.

Soneium and DayOneDream announced the partnership during their “Tokenizing K-Pop: WAVIST Night” event in Seoul, held during Korea Blockchain Week 2026. The companies said they plan to continue bringing K-content assets and associated revenue streams onto Soneium.
